Bernard Hopkins is aiming to become the oldest world champion in history at 48 years old, looking to break the record he set just a few years ago. Standing in his way is undefeated Tavoris Cloud. The two met tonight at Barclay's Center in New York on HBO Championship Boxing.
In the first round of the bout, the two men got a little dirty early on, with the fighters exchanging some shots in the clinch as the referee attempted to break them up. It was classic Hopkins mind game stuff, but he was also able to land his jab a little bit in the round, taking away the room Cloud was looking to fight from to nullify his attack.
It wasn't the prettiest round, much of it spent with Hopkins clinching to take away Cloud's attack, but it was effective in that Cloud couldn't get any offense going.
Round: 10-9 Hopkins
