Weekend ratings breakdown: Louisville-Duke dominates Sunday

Andy Lyons

The NCAA Tournament had every other network pretty much shying away from sports programming this weekend.

Saturday, March 30

12 p.m. ET - WTA: Sony Open Final (CBS): 1.1

1:30 p.m. ET - Red Bull Signature Series (NBC): 0.4

2:30 p.m. ET - Global Golf Adventure (NBC): 0.3

2:30 p.m. ET - Road to the Final Four (CBS): 1.4

3 p.m. ET - PGA: Shell Houston Open, Round Three (NBC): 1.4

4:15 p.m. ET - NCAA Tournament: Syracuse vs. Marquette (CBS): 4.7

7 p.m. ET - NCAA Tournament: Wichita State vs. Ohio State (CBS): 6.9

Analysis: Strangely, both the regional semifinals were exactly even with last year's on Saturday. Syracuse-Marquette matched Louisville-Florida in 2012, while Wichita State-Ohio State did the same as Ohio State-Syracuse. The Houston Open was way down from a 2.1 last year.

Sunday, March 31

11:30 a.m. ET - ATP: Sony Open Final (CBS): 1.3

12:30 p.m. ET - NHL: Chicago vs. Detroit (NBC): 1.0

2:15 p.m. ET - NCAA Tournament: Michigan vs. Florida (CBS): 6.2

3 p.m. ET - PGA: Shell Houston Open, Final Round (NBC): 1.5

5 p.m. ET - NCAA Tournament: Louisville vs. Duke (CBS): 9.4

Analysis: CBS, overall, was up 25 percent on Sunday for NCAA action. The Louisville-Duke game, which unfortunately gained a ton of buzz due to the Kevin Ware injury, was up 21 percent from Kansas-North Carolina last year (7.8). The early game, Michigan-Florida, was up 17 percent from Kentucky-Baylor (5.3). CBS and Turner have averaged a 6.7 overnight for the entire tournament, up eight percent.

The NHL was down slightly from Flyers-Penguins last year (1.2), and the Houston Open will get some slack because action was eventually postponed due to inclement weather.
