Boston Marathon over after explosions, police securing scene

Police are trying to deal with the aftermath of explosions at the Boston Marathon.

The Boston Marathon has been called after explosions detonated near the finish line. Emergency officials are trying to sort out a situation that still appears to be dangerous.

Runners who had not yet finished the race were being held to prevent them from getting the finish line:

Police scanners indicate the area around the finish line isn't safe and that there could be other possible explosive devices present:

Here's what we grabbed off the police scanner, available for listen here:

  • Officers on Boylston Street who are not "protecting critical evidence" are instructed to leave the area, as well as EMS and Fire personnel.
  • Scanner talk indicates officials suspect the explosions came from mailboxes. Police are trying to contact the postal service for a key for some boxes, and a truck that they're moving to secure (double parked).
  • Police are using social media to inform patrons of bars and restaurants that they will be released from those establishments when the area is secure.
  • Scanner talk indicates there is another suspected device at 77687 Boylston, another device, in front of the Mandarin hotel.

We'll have more updates as more information becomes available.
