Glen Gulutzan and assistant coach Paul Jerrard have been relieved of their duties with the Dallas Stars.

The Dallas Stars have relieved head coach Glen Gulutzan and assistant coach Paul Jerrard of their duties effective immediately, the team announced Tuesday.

The Stars finished the 2013 season with a 22-22-4 record, which accumulated a total of 48 points. That total had the club ranked as the 11th place team in the Western Conference, seven points back of a playoff spot.

In two seasons as the Stars' head coach, Gulutzan accumulated a record of 64-57-9.

While general manager Jim Nill has decided to relieve Gulutzan and Jerrard, he has decided to retain the services of Curt Fraser and goalie coach Mike Valley. Fraser and Nill have a history, as Nill hired Fraser to coach the Detroit Red Wings' American Hockey League affiliate, the Grand Rapids Griffins, in 2008. At the time, Nill was acting as Detroit's assistant general manager.

Nill is scheduled to meet with the media at 4 p.m. ET to address the decision.
