Showtime's coverage of the Floyd Mayweather vs. Robert Guerrero undercard kicked off with a bout between Badou Jack and Michael Gbenga. Jack was on the card as part of The Money Team, Floyd Mayweather's stable of "promoted fighters," and had been in premium positions on Showtime in the past. Meanwhile, Gbenga came in trying to get a win on his birthday.
Jack was clearly the better fighter from the opening bell while Gbenga was there expected to play opponent, the same role he played in his last fight, a loss to Andre Dirrell.
It took until the second round for Jack to start taking advantage of Gbenga's wildness, cracking him with a hard straight right hand and a short left hook, both of which appeared to bother Gbenga.
In round three, Jack drilled Gbenga with a series of shots to the body, the last of which dropped him to the canvas. Gbenga claimed the shot was low as referee Russell Mora repeatedly asked if he wanted to continue. The lack of answering "yes" meant that Mora had no choice but to call an end to the contest. Replays showed the blow to be clearly legal.
With the win Badou Jack advanced to 14-0 in his career.
