Monday night marks the beginning of the final series of the 2013 College World Series as the Mississippi State Bulldogs face off against the UCLA Bruins at 8 p.m. ET from TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha, Neb. ESPN will handle the TV broadcast, and the game will also be available for online streaming at WatchESPN.com.
Monday's matchup is Game 1 of a three-game series. Game 2 will be played at 8 p.m. Tuesday night, and Game 3, if necessary, will be at the same time on Wednesday.
UCLA, competing in their third CWS in the last four years, has declared junior Adam Plutko (9-3) its Game 1 starter. The right-hander holds a 2.29 ERA on the season and has allowed just two earned runs in his three starts in the NCAA Tournament.
Plutko will likely face Mississippi State's Trevor Fitts (0-0), who will lead a team in its ninth CWS appearance, still looking for its first national championship. Fitts holds a 2.86 season ERA, but, due to the Bulldogs' heavy reliance on bullpen pitching, has thrown only 7⅓ innings combined in his three tournament starts. Look for Ross Mitchell (13-0) or another of Mississippi State's deep stable of relief hurlers to take over early.
