Analysis: While the NBA obviously crushed everything in its path, the NHL was also a big winner this weekend. Despite tying baseball in the overnights, the NHL won in preliminary viewers (3.4 million to 3.2 million) and adults 18-49 (1.2 to 0.7). The NHL tied its highest overnight rating for a non-Stanley Cup Final playoff game since 1998. The only other game to hit a 2.5 was Game 6 of Bruins vs. Capitals in Round 1 last year. It drew a higher overnight than Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final, which aired in primetime on the comparable date last year.
The Memorial began a down weekend with Tiger out of the mix. Round 3's 1.8 was a big drop from the 2.5 last year. MLB On Fox, which had Red Sox vs. Yankees in 57 percent of the country, was down a tick from a 2.6 for Yankees vs. Tigers last year. The French Open was up a tick from a 1.0 last year. The Prefontaine Classic dropped big, from a 1.2 in 2012.
