All three jewels of horse racing's Triple Crown have been won by different horses now. Orb actually chased Palace Malice down and surpassed him down the stretch in the Kentucky Derby. However, Orb had a forgettable run at the Preakness, which was won with a wire-to-wire run by Oxbow, costing the Belmont some of the drama.
Revolutionary's connections had hoped their Kentucky Derby favorite might be able to acquit himself better this time around, but no luck.
Palace Malice, who led for much of the Kentucky Derby before fading, and jockey Mike Smith ran among the leaders for much of the Belmont before making his push during the final half-mile of the race. Orb did try to make a run in the end, but it was too late. Palace Malice held him off to win by more than three furlongs.
