Tiger Woods maintained his grip on the top spot in the FedEx Cup standings this week, though there was plenty of shuffling behind him. Matt Kuchar and Brandt Snedeker each moved up a spot, to second and third, after strong outings at the RBC Canadian Open over the weekend. Phil Mickelson and Billy Horschel round out the top five.
Some, like Horschel, are near the top of the standings in part because of the sheer number of events played. Others, like Woods, are faring well thanks to efficiency. Woods has only played in 10 tournaments this season, but he has four victories and six top-10 finishes.
The top 125 players in the standings qualify for the playoffs, which consists of four tournaments. The postseason begins in late August with The Barclays, and concludes with the Tour Championship. The field of 125 will be whittled down after each tournament until only 30 remain for the final event.
