Dana White, president of the UFC, often talks about how he got his start as a "boxing guy" and that he still loves the sport. But he just as often finds himself trashing the sport, or at least the personalities in it.
White was at the weigh-ins for Floyd Mayweather and Canelo Alvarez's mega-fight Friday evening, and he talked about his excitement for the fight:
"This is awesome, man. This is the way it's supposed to be done. I'm glad I'm in town this weekend, I'm not out working. And I'm glad I get to go out to dinner tomorrow, come in here, sit in a seat and be a fan."
He also refused to play into any boxing vs. UFC talk:
"It's ridiculous. I'm a fan of boxing! You can be a fan of both! This is one of those fights for boxing that's the perfect storm. You've got Floyd Mayweather, he's never lost in 17 years, he's undefeated. And this up and coming Mexican fighter who everyone believes can beat Floyd Mayweather. It's the perfect storm for a massive event like this. It's good for boxing! It's good for me! And it's good for Las Vegas!"
White also had plenty more to say about the fight, what he expects and how happy he is to just be there as a fan:
"I've broke this fight down fifty million different ways and I have no idea what to think. I don't give predictions on my own fights but I would on this one if I knew what I was going to do. I'm gonna bet on it, I just don't know what yet!""I'm a fight fan, I love being at big events like this. I'm going to dinner tomorrow, I'm gonna go up there and sit in my seat and I'm gonna watch the fight.""The key to this fight is Mayweather's hands. How are his hands? How are they gonna hold up over this fight? If they hold up this is gonna be a war. If Canelo comes out and fights like Chavez, and he's in his face the whole time, tries to wear him down, this is gonna be a fun fight."
