Brandon Weeden injury: Browns QB could miss Week 3 with sprained thumb

Brad Mills-USA TODAY Sports

Browns' quarterback Brandon Weeden may need to take a week off to recover from a sprained thumb.

The Cleveland Browns may have to go with backup quarterback Jason Campbell next week against the Vikings, following a hand injury to starter Brandon WeedenAccording to Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal, Weeden has a sprained thumb on his right hand and left M & T Stadium on Sunday with a brace to secure the injury.

Weeden suffered the injury during an attempted pass when he hit his thumb on the helmet of one of his offensive linemen in the fourth quarter. He was replaced by Campbell a few minutes later. X-rays on Weeden's thumb came back negative.

Despite the injury only being a sprain, the pain will make it hard for Weeden to throw the ball with force and accuracy.

"It was tough to put pressure on the ball," Weeden said. "It hurts. Doesn't feel too good."

On the flipside, Campbell believes he will be ready if his number is called next week.

"I'll prepare this week as if I'm starting," Campbell said. "And a week of preparation, it definitely helps a lot."

The Browns travel to Minnesota in Week 3 for a matchup against the Vikings.
