Just hours after reports circulated suggesting Steven Luštica was in Adelaide United's sights, the club have announced that they have signed the 22-year-old midfielder to a one-year contract. Having played previously in the A-League at Gold Coast United and Brisbane Roar on loan, Luštica will make the Coopers Stadium his third stop before the age of 23. He spent the past two years at Hajduk Split in Croatia.
Adelaide general manager of football operations Michael Petrillo said the following about the former National Youth League Player of the Year:
"Steven is the type of player that fits with the football philosophy of the coach. Josep [Gombau] has had a good look at several players and has opted for Steven because he is technically very good, believes he can adapt quickly to the style of play and has had A-League experience.
"He has also spent several years in Europe at a very good club like Hajduk Split where he played in the UEFA Champions League, as well. Steven will add versatility to our midfield and at just 22 years of age, we believe he has a bright future ahead of him."
Luštica will join his teammates in Adelaide this weekend, one month before the start of the A-League season.
