John Tortorella will miss 15 days without pay after he tried to get into the Calgary Flames locker room on Saturday night.

Vancouver Canucks coach John Tortorella was in New York on Monday to answer for his actions on Saturday night when he tried to charge into the Calgary Flames' locker room following a penalty filled first period that began with a line brawl off the opening face off.

For his involvement the league has suspended Tortorella 15 days, retroactive to Jan. 19 and will run through Feb. 2.

"Mr. Tortorella's actions in attempting to enter the Calgary Flames locker room after the first period were both dangerous and an embarrassment to the League," NHL vice president of hockey operations Colin Campbell said in a statement. "Coaches in the NHL bear the responsibility of providing leadership, even when emotions run high, and Mr. Tortorella failed in his responsibility to the game."

Tortorella will miss six games as a result of the suspension.

Flames coach Bob Hartley was also fined $25,000.

Tortorella was livid after the Flames started their fourth line for the opening face-off, a decision that Tortorella countered by sending out his fourth line and then screaming at the Flames' bench during the ensuing fight.

After the period Tortorella attempted to get into the Flames' locker room to confront their coaching staff.
