Royal Rumble results: Randy Orton beats John Cena with an assist from the Wyatts

The Wyatt Family were a much bigger part of the co-main event than the match's actual participants.

The WWE World Heavyweight Championship still belongs to Randy Orton, but the shenanigans in his match with John Cena were much more interesting than the match itself. The Wyatt Family caused a distraction at the end, allowing Orton to win.

Randy Orton vs. John Cena is the longest running rivalry in WWE at the moment, and for the most part, not in a good way. They've put on lots of good matches, but at this point they've said as much about one other as there is to say and the trash talk lacks some bite. Anyway, Orton beat Cena at TLC for the unified World Heavyweight and WWE titles, though they're not one belt. Orton carries two around and is called the WWE World Heavyweight Champion.

Orton's been ultra-paranoid and kind of a wuss over the last month. On the episode of Raw before the Rumble, he was mad at Triple H and Stephanie McMahon for making this match at all. And also for hiring Batista and Brock Lesnar. Cena then chased him out of the arena because Orton had previously beaten the crap out of his dad. This is the second time they've used this angle in a Cena-Orton feud.

See why lots of fans are sick of this? There were chants of "BOOOORING" and "DANIEL BRYAN" in the opening minute. The match also featured chants for a half-dozen wrestlers, as well as "YOU CAN'T WRESTLE", "WE WANT DIVAS" and "THIS IS AWFUL". To Orton's credit, he did an excellent job of playing heel and making the crowd boo him.

The latter part of the match featured plenty of WWE big match staples. Orton tapped out, but the ref didn't see it. While the ref was unconscious, Orton clocked Cena with the big gold belt. They hit their own finishers and one another's finishers. They kicked out.

Then things got interesting. Just as Randy Orton was about to tap out to the STF, the Wyatts showed up to distract Cena. That allowed Orton to hit the RKO, and he retained the title. After Orton left the ring, the family laid a beating on Cena, culminating in him eating a Sister Abigail.

That's an excellent way to set up a Wyatt-Cena feud.
