Adelaide United will not release Steven Luštica

The 22-year-old wants to terminate his contract and move immediately to Brisbane Roar.

Trouble is brewing between Adelaide United, Brisbane Roar and Steven Luštica. With the 22-year-old midfielder apparently set to sign an extension with the Reds, Luštica was approached by Brisbane and now wants to move back to the club where he featured a dozen times last season. Adelaide is uninterested in such a move and is currently refusing to release the player. Luštica has played in fifteen games for the Reds this season.

Outlined in a 'Club Statement Regarding Steven Luštica,' the United media department explained:

"This situation is totally different to a transfer-based matter where club and player alike benefit from a potential move. As at today, Adelaide United will not release the player. The club will continue to seek to resolve the matter with the player and/or his agent and until that time there will be no further comment on the matter."

For Luštica to immediately terminate his current contract and simply rejoin the Roar is an unlikely scenario at this juncture. However, it would not be surprising to see him back in orange in 2014/15 if he sees out the rest of this season at Adelaide. The entire ordeal does beg the question as to why he chose to sign with the Reds instead of Brisbane after terminating his contract at Hajduk Split in September 2013.
