Russian skicross racer Maria Komissarova suffered a spine injury during training on Saturday and is currently in surgery.

Komissarova is only 23 years old and the injury is considered to be serious. The Associated Press is reporting that she has suffered a broken spine. Komissarova has been taken to a hospital which was specially built for the Olympics and the doctors decided it was necessary to operate.

The only details Russian officials provided were that Komissarova suffered a spine injury and that they believe that it is a serious injury. The operation is expected to take a while and more information about her condition won't be known until the surgery is complete.

The training session took place at Rosa Khutor Extreme Park and she received attention almost immediately. She was training for the slopestyle skiing event when the injury took place. At this point, the injury isn't considered to be the result of the conditions of the track.
