Canada started slow, but came through when it counted.

The curling competition at Sochi is coming to a close, and on Thursday the women's draw saw its medals decided.

Nothing separated Sweden and Canada in the gold medal game. The Canadian team scored first only to see it answered, then added a two-stone end to see if matched once again. It was clear these were the two best teams performing at their best, but it was unclear how the match would end as Canada's accuracy began to wane.

Team-wide they operated at 85-percent on the tournament, but this slipped to 79-percent early in the final. Meanwhile, Sweden lifted its game but wasn't able to score when they needed to most. It allowed the under-performing Canadians to leave options open that couldn't be capitalized on, and the North Americans scored in the eighth end and blew in open for a two-stone ninth for the win. The door was open, but Sweden couldn't capitalize. That's the story from the gold medal game.

Great Britain faced off with Switzerland for the bronze medal, and it was a back-and-forth game the event deserved. The Swiss jumped out to an early lead thanks to a two-stone end in the second, but surrendered it in the fifth. Great Britain went stone-for-stone until the 10th end, where they scored the definitive point to win a close game 6-5.
