A total of eight events were decided on Sunday in Sochi, with Team USA capturing a gold and bronze medal to increase its tally in the 2014 Winter Olympics.

Snowboard
The ladies' slopestyle medal was decided on Sunday for the first time in Winter Olympic history. Team USA continued its domination of the event with a second gold medal on the back of a stellar run from Jamie Anderson.
Anderson was the favorite entering the event and waited until her second run to throw down a big score that the competition could not match. It brought Team USA its second gold medal of the games.

Men's Downhill
The day started on the Alpine slope where American Bode Miller entered the event as favorite. He struggled on a difficult course and was unable to replicate his strong training sessions, finishing in disappointing fashion in eighth place.

Women's 7.5km Sprint
The Biathlon wasn't an event the United States were believed to medal in, and it went to form. Susan Dunklee of Team USA finished the best among American competitors in 14th place, well outside of medal contention. Eastern Europe dominated the race with a 1-2-3 finish.

Men's Skiathlon 15 km classic + 15 km free
Men's Skiathlon was a similar affair as the Biathlon, but it was Western Europe rather than Eastern that held on to gain all the medals. Noah Hoffman had the best finish of athletes representing Team USA, but finished 35th overall.

Figure Skating
The first medals in the inaugural figure skating team event were handed out at Sochi, and Team USA got back into contention to finish with a bronze medal. Efforts in the ladies' free and free ice dance helped mitigate struggles on the men's side to capture third place.
Russia's commanding lead remained infallible and gave the host country plenty to cheer about on Sunday night.

Speed Skating
Adler Arena hosted the Ladies' 3000 m speed staking and Netherlands continued its early domination of the event at Sochi. Ireen Wust last won gold in 2006 in Torino and now has a second medal, cementing her legacy. She finished over a second faster than he nearest competitor, while Jilleanne Rookard was the highest-placed American in 10th.

Luge
The Men's singles luge medal went to Felix Loch of Germany, winner of the gold in Vancouver and an eight-time gold medal winner in the World Championships.
Team USA has never won a luge singles medal and that continued. Christopher Mazdzer had a solid run, but was unable to match the sport's best and finished in 13th place.
Armin Zoeggeler reached the Olympic podium for the sixth time in his career.

Ski Jumping
Sochi's evening was rounded out at the RusSki Gorki Ski Jumping Center, which hosted the Men's Normal Hill Individual. Austria have had a grip on this event in the past, but despite holding onto first and second with three jumpers left they were unseated by a talented trio that dashed medal hopes in three trips down the slope.
No Americans qualified for the final making it a competition between Europeans and two Japanese jumpers.
