Central Coast Mariners hold off Syndey FC in Gosford

Kim Seung-Yong's free kick and Mitchell Duke's late winner broke the Mariners' five game losing streak across all competitions.

Following four straight losses in the league and defeat in the Champions League during the week, Central Coast Mariners finally won. The three points came at the expense of Sydney FC in a 2-1 victory at Bluetongue Stadium on Saturday. Kim Seung-Yong scored his first Mariners goal but it was Mitchell Duke who scored the winner in the 75th minute.

Richard Garcia scored the equalizer for Sydney just after the hour when he rebounded a Nikola Petkovic shot that was saved by Liam Reddy. But despite several other good chances, including an Alessandro Del Piero free kick, but it was no match for the sublime free kick from Kim and Duke's well taken strike late in the game.

The Mariners were also the only A-League team to return from a midweek Champions League defeat and win. That should restore some confidence ahead of the Friday night March 7 game against Melbourne Victory at AAMI Park. Sydney play again the following day with the derby against Western Sydney Wanderers at the Allianz Stadium.
