As previously reported, the Floyd Mayweather and Marcos Maidana camps got into an argument Friday night, 24 hours ahead of their Showtime pay-per-view bout, over the gloves Maidana planned to wear for the bout.
Fight Hype has video of the confrontation, which can be watched above.
Since that took place, the Nevada State Athletic Commission did rule that the custom-made Everlast MX gloves were invalid. The stock "red" Everlast MX gloves were ruled okay by the commission, but the Mayweather camp continued to protest the use of the gloves.
The Maidana camp appears to be standing by its decision to wear the stock MX gloves and, as they were approved by the commission, the Mayweather camp really has nothing they can do about it.
There are really three options at this point:
- Mayweather can refuse to fight if Maidana's camp doesn't relent, which would be a major issue as he would be in violation of the fight contract (among other problems)
- Mayweather can drop the complaint and just fight
- Maidana can be convinced to use different gloves. This likely would only happen if he was paid to do so ... and Mayweather has a lot of money.
As of now, this is an ongoing situation.
