Guerrero and Olivo got into an altercation on the field on Tuesday, and the disagreement carried over into the dugout. Olivo then bit the prized prospect's ear, forcing Guererro to undergo plastic surgery. While the Dodgers organization has not confirmed the 27-year-old second baseman will miss up to five weeks, there were indications that he could be out for a month.
Olivo, who is with the organization in Albuquerque to serve as depth behind the plate, has been placed on the suspended list. The club has not said how long he will be suspended for.
As for Guerrero, the Cuban prospect was hitting .376/.417/.735 with 10 home runs and 29 RBI in 33 games with the Isotopes. After signing a four-year deal worth $28 million during the offseason, Guerrero was about to start splitting time between second base, third base and shortstop, with the Dodgers planning to use him as a utility player down the road.
