Watch the insane final 3 passes of the Indy 500

Andrew Weber-USA TODAY Sports

This is what insanity looks like, at 220 miles per hour.

The Indy 500 story arc tends to build slowly, only reaching a crescendo as time is running out and racers are getting frantic. Such was the case on Sunday, when Helio Castroneves and Ryan Hunter-Reay battled it out in back-and-forth fashion following the final caution (a caution that came with a red flag, allowing the race to finish under green).

How crazy did the last few laps at Indy get? Just watch the final three passes of the race, in a single GIF:

Now remember these are open wheel cars, with drivers traveling around 220 miles per hour in a pretty exposed and vulnerable position. Nerves of steel? Nerves of steel. What a race.
