The League of Legends 2015 World Championship finals have arrived, with two Korean teams facing off for the trophy for the first time ever. LCK rivals SK Telecom T1 and KOO Tigers will face off in a best-of-five series on Saturday, beginning at 8 a.m. ET.
After a dominating LCK season and a Korean title, SKT entered Worlds as one of the strong favorites to win it all. Drawn with MSI champions Edward Gaming in the group stages, SKT waltzed through Group C with a 6-0 record, sweeping ahq e-Sports Club and Origen in the knockouts stages for a perfect 12-0 mark to this point.
KOO Tigers's LCK campaign was not quite as successful, finishing fourth in the regular season standings and third in the playoffs. KOO finished in second place in Group A behind Flash Wolves due to a tiebreaker, as both teams had a 4-2 record in the round. The Tigers squared off with second-place LCK finishers KT Rolster in the quarterfinal round, winning 3-1 before a surprising sweep of European champions Fnatic in the semifinals.
SKT appears to have a clear advantage at nearly every position, but the side lanes may be KOO's best chance at an upset. Top laner Smeb has been playing like one of the best players in the world during the tournament (and finally has the chance to play a carry against SKT), and support GorillA has also looked clearly like he's among the top tier at his position.
One important note: Gragas, one of the top three junglers in the current professional meta, has been disabled for the rest of the tournament after a bug in the quarterfinal round. Lux and Ziggs have also been disabled.
