The fantasy playoffs are here and matchups are becoming more critical than ever. Chances are if your team is still alive at this point, you're probably set at the tight end position already. Rob Gronkowski owners in particular breathed a sigh of relief when he made his return on Sunday night, looking like the Gronk of old.
But some owners might not be so fortunate at this position, so the waiver wire can still play a pivotal role in your quest for fantasy glory. With just two weeks to go in the fantasy season, here are five potential wire gems at tight end, owned in less than 50 percent of Yahoo! leagues.
Vernon Davis, Denver Broncos (45 percent)
Davis' biggest highlight from Week 14 was a brutal dropped pass late in the fourth quarter, but his actual stat line was pretty good (seven catches, 74 yards). Getting more comfortable in his new offense and out-snapping Owen Daniels, 60-52, Davis is starting to gain fantasy relevance again. He'll have TE1 upside against the Pittsburgh Steelers' exploitable secondary in Week 15.
Heath Miller, Pittsburgh Steelers (28 percent)
Miller is getting slower with age and doesn't really make game-breaking plays anymore. He got 10 catches against the Cincinnati Bengals last week, but managed only 66 yards. That said, Miller is still a reliable safety valve for Ben Roethlisberger and sees enough targets to be useful in deep PPR leagues. He'll have a lower ceiling against the Broncos this week, but could see some good looks over the middle with Antonio Brown and Martavis Bryant occupied by Aqib Talib and Chris Harris Jr.
Eric Ebron, Detroit Lions (22 percent)
Ebron is as inconsistent as ever, but his most productive stretch of the year came when Brandon Pettigrew was out injured. Now Pettigrew's season is over with a torn ACL, so Ebron should see more targets than he has recently. With the 4-9 Lions officially out of playoff contention, it would behoove them to get their 2014 No. 10 pick more involved down the stretch. Ebron carries plenty of risk, but has a good chance to find the end zone against the New Orleans Saints' terrible defense.
Zach Miller, Chicago Bears (20 percent)
A waiver wire darling over the past month, Miller's role was secured when Martellus Bennett hit injured reserve last week. Now entrenched as the undisputed starter, he caught five passes for 85 yards against Washington and scored his fifth touchdown in the past six games. Miller should continue to flash TE1 upside when the Bears face the Minnesota Vikings' banged-up defense this week.
Clive Walford, Oakland Raiders (one percent)
At this point, Wal ford is more of a dynasty stash than 2015 fantasy contributor, but the upside is hard to ignore, even though he hasn't scored a touchdown since Week 10. The Raiders have one of the youngest and most promising offenses in the league, so bigger things could be in store for Walford next season. That said, he's mostly a DFS dart throw against the Green Bay Packers this week.
