The 99th running of the Indianapolis 500 takes place on Sunday at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Ryan Hunter-Reay, the 2014 winner, will start 16th in his eighth career Indy 500. A year after becoming the first American driver to win the race in eight years, Hunter-Reay wants more.
"Every time you are in the car, there is a pressure to punch above your weight," the 34-year-old driver recently told Men's Journal. "It's always looking towards the next step, achieving the next goal."
"The goal right now is to win another Indy 500 and championship, however that is achieved," Hunter-Reay added
The Dallas native entered last year's race with two top-10 finishes and a pair of top-10 starts. Hunter-Reay began the 2014 race in the 19th spot before eventually leading for 56 of 200 laps, including the final four.
"It gave me a lot of pride," Hunter-Reay said. "It's amazing to be able to bring that full circle, because it's an American tradition, and the race is bigger than motorsports itself."
