Jonathan McKnight, the brother of former NFL running back Joe McKnight who was shot and killed on Thursday, revealed Friday at a press conference that his brother had been in touch with the Minnesota Vikings about a potential return to professional football.
McKnight had been working at a local mental health center during his time away from the NFL before he was killed by Ronald Gasser in what authorities are calling a road rage incident on the afternoon of Dec. 1.
McKnight spent three seasons, from 2010 to 2012, with the New York Jets. His last stint in the NFL came in 2014 with the Kansas City Chiefs. He played with two Canadian Football League teams earlier this year.
Gasser turned himself in after the incident, and was released from custody overnight on Friday. He has not yet been formally charged with anything, but authorities made it clear during the Friday press conference that the investigation into the shooting continues.
