2013 MLB Draft results: RHP Ryne Stanek selected by Rays with the No. 29 pick

The Tampa Bay Rays have selected Arkansas Razorbacks pitcher Ryne Stanek with the 29th pick in the 2013 MLB Amateur Draft.

Stanek entered the 2010 draft with thoughts of the first-round on his mind, but he ended up slipping down to the third round. Rather then join the Seattle Mariners, Stanek set off to Arkansas to boost his draft stock. He was the lynchpin for the No. 4 ranked Razorbacks, going 10-2 with a 1.39 ERA in 16 starts his this season.

Stanek's repertoire includes a mid-90s fastball that tops out at 97 mph. He also throws an above-average slider and has a curveball that can be tricky to make contact with.

Stanek has a solid grip on four pitches and has top-of-the-rotation upside. He did struggle with command earlier in his senior season, however, and has some odd pitching mechanics, which might cause issues later in his career.

2013 MLB Draft results: OF Hunter Renfroe selected by Padres with the No. 13 pick

The San Diego Padres have selected Mississippi State outfielder Hunter Renfroe with the No. 13 pick in the 2013 MLB Draft.

Scouts have watched Renfroe since his days in high school, but after a couple of lackluster seasons in college, he almost fell off the MLB pre-draft hype list. After rarely playing as a freshman and only hitting .252/.328/.374 as a sophomore, Renfroe clicked as a junior hitting .345/.435/.632 with 15 home runs during the regular season and SEC Tournament. Renfroe switched from catcher to outfield to help his bat and will likely stick with that position at the next level.

As a power hitter with a big swing, Renfroe tends to strike out more often than most. He balances that with a good walk rate, generating almost as many walks (34) as he did strikeouts (39) this season. Even with his recent change of positions, Renfroe held his own in the outfield and has what MLB.com calls a "cannon for an arm."

2013 MLB Draft results: OF Austin Meadows selected by Pirates with the No. 9 pick

The Pittsburgh Pirates selected Grayson High School outfielder Austin Meadows with the No. 8 pick in the 2013 MLB Draft.

Meadows is one of two lauded prospects from Georgia, joining Clint Frazier in 2013's top-100 prospects according to MLB.com. Scouts are high on Meadows potential, although he is seen as raw. However, with his 6'3, 200-pound frame, he looks like a 30 home run center fielder that could have a productive MLB career, Minor League Ball's Matt Garrioch writes.

Meadows is a five-tool player and has obliterated the competition his senior year, hitting .535/.633/.930, with 14 doubles, four home runs, 28 RBI and 17 stolen bases.

He reportedly began playing baseball when he was just 3 years old, according to the Gwinnett Citizen, and both of his parents played baseball and softball in college. He also played football throughout most of his high school years, but gave up in his senior season to focus on playing baseball. Meadows committed to Clemson last year.
