The game once known as the Motor City Bowl will have a lot to live up to in 2012 after an exciting finish in 2011 between Purdue and Western Michigan. In 2012, it'll be Central Michigan against Western Kentucky on Dec. 26.
A record seven MAC teams are headed to bowl games this year, including Central Michigan, which will meet Western Kentucky in Detroit in the Little Caesars Bowl.
The Chippewas finished 6-6, wining their final three games to qualify for postseason play. The Hilltoppers, who finished fifth in the Sun Belt, lost four of their final six games.
The Little Caesars Pizza Bowl has a rich tradition in Detroit, having been played in the Motor City since 1997. It was aptly named the Motor City Bowl until 2009, when Little Caesars Pizza took the reigns as the title sponsor. From 1998-2007, Ford, General Motors and Chrysler jointly sponsored the game during that time.
The game has historically pitted the MAC's top-ranked team against a range of competition, with the Big Ten currently holding the other bid so long as it has enough bowl-eligible teams.
TV schedule: Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012, 7:30 p.m. ET, ESPN
Locale: Ford Field, Detroit, MI
My thoughts on the title sponsor's services: Average pizza, great mascot. (Love that little guy!)
Last year's score: Purdue 37, Western Michigan 32.
