Former Big East rivals West Virginia and Syracuse will meet in the Bronx for the third edition of the New Era Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium.
It'll be the Big 12's West Virginia against the Big East's Syracuse in the Pinstripe Bowl, according to multiple reports. Big East reunion!
A relative newcomer to the college football bowl scene, the New Era Pinstripe Bowl is a clash between schools typically from the Big East and Big 12 conferences, played in New York's Yankee Stadium. Now in its third year of existence, the 2012 edition of the Pinstripe Bowl will be the sixth game of football played in the new Yankee Stadium since its construction in 2009. Played just before the new year, winners of the Pinstripe Bowl are awarded the George M. Steinbrenner Trophy.
TV schedule: Dec. 29, 3:15 p.m. ET, ESPN
Locale: New York, Yankee Stadium (54,251)
My thoughts on the title sponsor's services: New Era is the gold standard of ballcaps, and as someone who enjoys collecting hats, I tend to be pro-New Era in most ways. The only thing anyone can not like about New Era hats are the stickers, when left on the brim by misguided souls. The Pinstripe Bowl's other main sponsor, however, is the New York Yankees. That is something I cannot get behind. While the mystique and aura of Yankee Stadium might help make a great game, I think most of us outside New York instinctually root against anything Yankee-related.
Last year's score: Rutgers Scarlet Knights 27, Iowa State Cyclones 13
