Augsburg vs. Hamburg: Final score 0-2, Hamburg clinical in front of goal

Alex Grimm

Artjoms Rudnevs had a goal and an assist to see Hamburg move into fourth place in the Bundesliga.

Hamburg kicked off the Bundesliga's weekend with a 2-0 victory away to Augsburg. While the hosts ran hard and didn't make it easy, Hamburg were very clinical in front of the net and scored their chances.

Augsburg came out playing some excellent counter-attacking football in the opening ten minutes. Kevin Vogt forced a good save out of Rene Adler very early and then fed a nice pass to Tobias Werner who just missed putting the hosts ahead.

The match's first goal would come courtesy of Hamburg's Heung Min Son. After looking the more dangerous side early, Augsburg turned the ball over in their own half. Artjoms Rudnevs passed the ball to Son, and the South Korean beat Simon Jentzsch with Hamburg's first shot of the match.

Hamburg doubled their lead in the 63rd minute. Rafael van der Vaart split the defense with a great pass and put Rudnevs in behind the Augsburg backline. The Latvian took a touch before sending in a powerful shot over the head of Jentzsch from close range.

The victory moves Hamburg into fourth place in the table before tomorrow's matches. After losing their first three matches to start the season, they've since won 13 of a possible 18 points. Augsburg remains in the relegation zone with only 6 points to their name so far this season. Things won't get any easier for them as their next three opponents are Hannover, Borussia Dortmund, and Eintracht Frankfurt.
