Mainz used a hat trick from Adam Szalai to beat Mainz 3-0.
Adam Szalai scored a hat trick to see Mainz beat Hoffenheim 3-0. The win moves Mainz all the way into 5th place while Hoffenheim hover just north of the relegation zone.
Hoffenheim nearly took an early lead, but Joselu missed wide from a close angle. Szalai score the first of his goals minutes later. Junior Diaz sent in a cross and Szalai outjumped Marvin Compper for the 1-0 lead.
Szalai scored a brace in the second half with the first coming just seconds after the halftime whistle. Elkin Soto picked up a turnover deep in the Hoffenheim half and played in Szalai. He took a touch and beat Tim Wiese to make it 2-0. His third goal would come when he headed in a corner kick.
The question must be asked of Hoffenheim manager Markus Babbel why they've turned back to Tim Wiese after the great play of Koen Casteels in his absence. Wiese has conceded six goals in two matches since his return.
