Stuttgart vs. Eintracht Frankfurt: Final score 2-1, Ibisevic scores a late winner

Stuttgart received a late winner from Vedad Ibisevic and an incorrect offside call to beat Eintracht Frankfurt.

Stuttgart picked up an impressive 2-1 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt for their first victory at the Mercedes Benz Arena this season.

The first goal came after only 6 minutes. A cross from the left side found it's way all the way to the back post to Christian Gentner. The midfielder volleyed the ball into the far corner for the early 1-0 lead.

Stuttgart controlled the remainder of the first half, but they were unable to really challenge Kevin Trapp in pursuit of a second goal. As the half came to a close, Stuttgart's shape disappeared, and they began to concede more possession to Frankfurt.

Frankfurt pressed forward at the start of the second half looking for the equalizer. They finally made Sven Ulreich make a save in the 57th minute. Stefan Aigner ripped a shot toward the corner, and Ulreich made the save at a full stretch.

The equalizer came in the 67th minute from, who else, Alexander Meier. He received a pass from Aigner on the left side of the penalty area, cut back, and curled a shot to the far corner out of the reach of Ulreich.

Vedad Ibisevic thought he scored the winner in the 82nd minute, but he was correctly ruled offside after his header beat Trapp. He did find the winner two minutes later. Martin Harnik crossed a ball into the far post, and Ibisevic lept over everyone to head it into the back of the net.

It appeared that Frankfurt scored a goal in the 89th minute, but Olivier Occean was ruled offside. After reviewing the replays, it appeared that the assistant referee made a mistake. The goal should have stood.

The three points move Stuttgart all the way into 8th place on 12 points. The loss means that Frankfurt drop to third in the table behind Schalke and five points behind Bayern Munich before their match this afternoon.
