Augsburg will try to get off the bottom of the table this weekend, but it's going to be very tough with Borussia Dortmund coming to town.
The defending champions travel to Augsburg this weekend where they're heavily favored to come away victors. Last season, they left Augsburg with only a draw.
BVB put together a very impressive week in the Champions League with a win and a draw in two matches against Real Madrid. They've struggled to turn in this performance week after week in the league so far this year. Last week's scoreless draw with Stuttgart was not a poor performance by BVB, but they failed to capitalize on their chances.
Augsburg have struggled to do much of anything this season. They've only scored five goals and conceded fifteen, and they sit dead last in the table. Things are not working for Markus Weinzierl's side, and a solution needs to be found.
It's going to be interesting to see with talks heating up around Robert Lewandowski if he becomes distracted moving forward. He's started slow this season with only 3 goals after scoring 22 goals last season. It's not known right now if the Polish international will sign an extension at BVB yet. If he doesn't, he will likely be moved this summer.
The real revelation for BVB's season so far has been Marco Reus. Since joining from Borussia Mönchengladbach this summer, the German international has four goals and three assists to his name. If Augsburg have a chance in this match, they have to keep Reus from attacking them at full spring.
Augsburg injuries and suspensions
Out: Giovanni Sio (achilles), Paul Verhaegh (foot), Jan Moravek (thigh).
Augsburg have scored the fewest goals in the league this season and losing Giovanni Sio and Jan Moravek this week is the worst. They'll struggle to create much of anything against BVB this weekend without those guys.
Borussia Dortmund injuries and suspensions
Out: Patrick Owomoyela (calf), Sebastian Kehl (knee), Jakub Błaszczykowski (ankle).
Jakub Błaszczykowski will miss out again this week as he still recovers from his ankle injury. He started training again this week and will rejoin the squad after the international break. Captain Sebastian Kehl suffered a knee injury midweek against Real Madrid and will miss the match. Patrick Owomoyela remains out.
