Bayern Munich extended their perfect beginning of the season to six matches with a hard fought 2-0 win away to Werder Bremen.
With Bayern pressing without success in the first half, they knew a quick goal to start the second would put the hosts under some pressure. That lead nearly came in the 49th minute when Franck Ribery struck the post, but the ball deflected away without causing any more problems.
Ribery almost put Bayern ahead again in the 64th minute. He dribbled across the top of the box, but his shot was just wide. Bremen's defense was holding, and their confidence was building that they could leave with a draw or even pip a win.
The breakthrough came in the 81st minute. Thomas Müller played the ball across to Luiz Gustavo. the Brazilian set himself up with his first touch before curling a beautiful shot past Sebastian Mielitz into the far corner to make it 1-0.
The floodgates were then open for Bayern, and then made it 2-0 two minutes later. Xherdan Shaqiri dribbled down the left flank before crossing the ball to the middle. Mario Mandzukic, coming on as a second half substitute for Claudio Pizarro, shot past Mielitz to double the lead.
