Eintracht Frankfurt continued their unbeaten run to start the Bundesliga season with a 2-1 win over Freiburg. The victory also sees them jump up to second in the table five points ahead of third place Borussia Dortmund.
As Freiburg sat back absorbing attack after attack from the hosts, they came through the first half without conceding. Frankfurt's best opportunity came when Takashi Inui made a run the length of the field, but he sent his shot directly into the chest of Oliver Baumann.
The visitors changed their tune as the second half got under way and were quickly rewarded. Kevin Trapp made a good save on Sebastian Freis' shot, but the ball deflected right to Max Kruse. He put his shot in the net past a recovering Baumann, and the visitors had a remarkable 1-0 lead.
Frankfurt began to push forward and thought they equalized minutes later, but Alexander Meier's goal was ruled offside. Meier left no doubt in the 67th minute. He brought down a cross from Bastian Oczipka with an excellent touch before volleying a shot past Baumann to equalize.
Meier sent the Commerzbank-Arena into delirium six minutes later. Oczipka sent in a corner, and Meier directed it with his head past Baumann for the winner.
