Axel Bellinghausen scored in the first half, and Fortuna Düsseldorf held on for the 1-0 victory over bottom-of-the-table Greuther Fürth

Fortuna Düsseldorf grabbed another massive three points on their quest to survive for another Bundesliga season after a 1-0 victory over lowly Greuther Fürth.

Things at the Esprit Arena got off to a wild start. On the very first attack of the game, Matthias Zimmermann fouled Robbie Kruse in the box for a penalty. Dani Schahin stepped up to surely put the home side up 1-0 in the third minute, but his penalty was extremely poor. Wolfgang Hesl made the easy save to keep the match scoreless.

Fürth seemed to come into possession and had a few opportunities on the Düsseldorf goal, but they failed to really challenge Fabian Giefer. Axel Bellinghausen made sure he didn't miss. The forward ripped a shot toward the goal, leaving Wesl no chance to save it. After 18 minutes, Düsseldorf had a 1-0 lead thanks to another Fürth defensive lapse that sent Bellinghausen one-on-one with the goalkeeper.

To make matters worse for Fürth, they were reduced to ten men in the 38th minute when Jozsef Varga was shown his second yellow card of the match for another foul on Robbie Kruse.

Düsseldorf held on throughout a foul and card riddled second half for the win. The three points moves them a full eleven clear of the relegation zone, but Hoffenheim do have a game in hand. Fürth continue to prop the table up at the bottom.
