Wolfsburg vs. Nürnberg: Final score 2-2, Some great goals were scored

Joern Pollex

Wolfsburg went up by two early but had to hold on late for a draw.

Dieter Hecking's Wolfsburg jumped out to an early lead, but they had to hold on late to preserve a 2-2 draw with the manager's former club Nürnberg.

Wolfsburg opened the scoring after just two minutes. Diego was fouled at the top of the penalty area, and the Brazilian stepped up to take the free kick. His attempt over the wall and into the near corner past Raphael Schäfer to give the hosts the 1-0 advantage.

Ivica Olic doubled the lead just before the half hour mark with a gorgeous curling effort from distance that struck the side netting. The Croatian has now scored a goal in five straight games for Wolfsburg.

Timmy Simons got Nürnberg right back into the game with a spectacular volley from way out that Diego Benaglio had zero shot at saving. Five minutes later, Per Nilsson got on the end of Hiroshi Kiyotake's free kick to pull them level.

Diego had an opportunity to end the game the way he opened it, but his free kick was off target.

The point takes Nürnberg and Wolfsburg even further away from the relegation zone, and both are likely safe from relegation.
