The folks that cover SEC basketball believe the Wildcats will top the league this season.
The Kentucky Wildcats were voted as favorites to win the 2013 SEC basketball conference title by the media on Monday, according to the Columbia Tribune. The Wildcats lost all five of their starters to the NBA, but John Calipari's reputation and another elite recruiting class have many believing UK will be among the nation's best anyway.
Rivals ranks Kentucky's 2012 recruiting class as the best in the nation, with the Wildcats pulling in No. 2 Nerlens Noel, No. 8 Alex Poythress, No. 14 Archie Goodwin, and No. 40 Willie Cauley from the site's overall top 100 players.
The Florida Gators were picked to finish second, but did receive five of the 24 first-place votes. The Tennessee Volunteers and SEC-newcomer Missouri Tigers each garnered a first-place vote. The Tigers were voted No. 3, while the Vols are at No. 4
The Wildcats went undefeated in the SEC regular season before losing to Vanderbilt in the conference title game on their way to a national championship in 2012.
