Andrew Wiggins, a 6'8 forward from Huntington Prep (W.Va.) who is widely considered to be the best high school basketball player in America, will be playing college basketball in 2013-14.
Huntington Prep head coach Rob Fulford told Evan Daniels of Scout.com that Wiggins has made the ove to reclassify from the class of 2014 to the class of 2013.
"This was the direction we recommended he take and wanted to deal with it sooner rather than later because I have the academic component of the process that is the most important piece of all of this," Fulford said. "Now, Andrew can concentrate on school and winning a national high school championship."
Kentucky has long been considered the leader to land Wiggins' services, although some believe the early commitments John Calipari has received from the 2013 class may have hindered the Wildcats' chances. Florida State has also been a consistent player in the recruiting battle.
In the wake of Rochester (MI) star James Young's commitment to UK, Wiggins has stated that he'd like to be recruited by schools like North Carolina, Kansas and Ohio State, who had previously thought any efforts to land the superstar would be futile. Not surprisingly, UNC head coach Roy Williams met with Wiggins earlier this week.
Regardless of where he chooses to play, college basketball fans should celebrate the fact that they're going to be privy to his talents a year earlier than planned.
