Billy Donovan's crew used their superior athleticism to win an ugly, defensive game on Tuesday.
The No. 7 Florida Gators outlasted Savannah State on Tuesday night, defeating the MEAC school in a methodical 58-40 victory.
The win moved Florida's record to 4-0, as the Gators don't appear to be too affected by the loss of Bradley Beal to the NBA.
A veteran squad loaded with athletes, they have the capability to squeeze teams on the defensive end of the floor. That's what they did on Tuesday, holding the Tigers to a 35 percent field goal percentage.
That's helpful on nights when the shots aren't falling, as the Gators only managed an anemic 35 percent field goal percentage themselves. They made up the difference on the free throw line and from beyond the arc, outscoring Savannah State by 24 points in those two categories.
Unlike many of the other teams in the top 10, Florida gets offense from a number of veterans, as upperclassmen Mike Rosario, Patric Young and Erik Murphy all scored in double digits on Tuesday.
