Illinois advanced to the Maui Invitational championship with a 84-61 win over Chaminade.
The Illinois Fighting Illini are headed to the EA Sports Maui Invitational championship game after they knocked off Chaminade on Tuesday, 84-61.
Illinois opened the game on an 8-0 run and never looked back. Chaminade pulled within three, but the Fighting Illini fought back and led 37-21 at halftime. The second half was more of the same, as Illinois cruised to the victory and a berth in the championship game.
Four different players scored in double figures for Illinois, led by Joseph Bertrand's 14 points. D.J. Richardson scored 11, while Brandon Paul followed up a 26-point effort on Monday with 13 points on Tuesday. Chaminade's DeAndre Haskins scored a game-high 19 points.
The win was the second straight blowout win for Illinois. The team knocked off USC on Monday, 94-64, and will face Butler in the championship game on Wednesday. Chaminade will go on to face North Carolina in the third-place game.
