Josh H. Holmberg-USA TODAY Sport

Canisius played UNLV tough at times but the Rebels pulled away with clutch shooting down the stretch.

No. 21 UNLV easily dispatched Canisius on Saturday evening at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, 89-74.

The Golden Griffins kept the game close through much of the first half, trailing 31-28 with 5:05 remaining before halftime. The Rebels then went on a 18-8 run to close out the half thanks to big contribution from forward Khem Birch off the bench.

Canisius closed the gap once more to 57-54 midway through the the second half before UNLV pulled away once more, allowing the Rebels a 24-10 run to take control of the game. UNLV shot 59.6 percent in the win, getting credit for 24 total assists and 13 blocks in what was, at times, a dominant performance.

Birch finished with 20 points and six blocks, while forward Anthony Bennett put up 21 points and seven rebounds while hitting on 3-of-5 from long range.

UNLV (11-1) next takes on No. 23 UNC at the Dean E. Smith Center on Dec. 29.
