Kevin Ollie gets 5-year extension at UConn, per report

David Butler II-USA TODAY Sports

Kevin Ollie reportedly has received a five-year contract extension to remain UConn's head basketball coach for the foreseeable future.

Kevin Ollie left a strong impression with the Connecticut athletic department.

Just 11 games into his tenure as head coach of the Huskies, Ollie has guided UConn to a 9-2 record -- and now will reportedly receive a five-year contract extension to remain Connecticut's head basketball coach for the foreseeable future.

Ollie played under Jim Calhoun at UConn between 1991-95, and eventually carved out a career in the NBA. The definition of a true journeyman, Ollie played for the Dallas Mavericks, Orlando Magic, Sacramento Kings, New Jersey Nets, Chicago Bulls, Indiana Pacers, Milwaukee Bucks, Seattle Supersonics, Cleveland Cavaliers, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Oklahoma City Thunder, but his most prominent role in the NBA was with the Philadelphia 76ers.

After retiring following the 2009-10 season, Ollie joined Calhoun's staff at Connecticut as an assistant coach. Ollie was named UConn's head coach on Sept. 13, 2012, after Calhoun retired after 26 years as UConn's head basketball coach.

Ollie was given a seven-month contract following Calhoun's retirement, but will now be able to call himself Connecticut's head basketball coach for years to come.
