No. 25 Kansas State vs. UMKC final score: Wildcats survive, win 52-44

USA TODAY Sports

Despite an abysmal shooting performance, No. 25 Kansas State escaped from a potential upset at home against UMKC, defeating the Kangaroos by the score of 52-44.

No. 25 Kansas State counted on their defense to grind out a close 52-44 win against the UMKC Kangaroos, helping the cold-shooting Wildcats escape from a potential upset at Fred Bramlage Coliseum.

The Wildcats made less than 33 percent of their field goals attempts and struggled from the line, too, sinking in just 16 of 31 free throw attempts. Fortunately for the Wildcats, the team turned to their pressure defense, forcing the Kangaroos into 18 turnovers.

Only six players scored for Kansas State and two registered double-digit figures Nino Williams struggled from the floor, making just one of his first 10 shots, but he did collect 13 rebounds. Senior guard Rodney McGruder scored a game high 17 points.

Now 10-2 and 7-0 at home, the Wildcats will prepare for their game against the visiting South Dakota Coyotes on Dec. 31 before playing conference opponent Oklahoma State.
