Josh Jones injury update: Creighton guard passes out before Nebraska game

Jeff Curry-US PRESSWIRE

The senior guard has averaged 7.0 points, 2.4 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 19.6 minutes per game.

Just 35 minutes before tip-off against Nebraska, Creighton guard Josh Jones blacked out during the teams' warmups and was later hospitalized, according to the Associated Press.

After the game, Creighton Head Coach Greg McDermott told reporters that the team will be very cautious with Jones due to the event and his medical history:

"He blacked out before the game," head coach Greg McDermott said after the game. "Obviously with his history and his heart, we're going to be very cautious."

According to the AP story on the event, Jones needed open-heart surgery during his senior of high school after he was diagnosed with a bacterial infection. After returning to basketball in December 2007, Jones hasn't had heart issues since.

Jones, 23, has averaged 7.0 points, 2.4 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 19.6 minutes per game during his senior season. The No. 16 Creighton Bluejays improved to 8-1 on Thursday night with a 64-42 victory against Nebraska. The sole loss in the season came on Nov. 28 against Boise State.

Creighton will next play on Sunday against the Akron Zips.
