The Hawkeyes had two chances on the foul line to tie the game in the last minute. They missed both.
The road isn't a very comfortable place in the Big 10, so No. 22 Michigan State will take their narrow 62-59 win over Iowa, no matter how ugly it was at times.
The Spartans survived by the skin of their teeth, with Branden Dawsen getting a breakaway dunk on a turnover with the game tied 56-56 in the final minute. From there, Tom Izzo's team closed out the Hawkeyes, who missed a potentially game-tying free throw two separate times.
It's another brutal home loss for Iowa, who had a chance to defeat Indiana before losing 69-65 on New Year's Eve.
Michigan State won despite a frustrating performance on the offensive end, shooting only 41 percent from the floor and 27 percent from beyond the arc. Dawsen was the only Spartan who could get anything going, leading the team with 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting.
The win moves Michigan State to 2-1 in conference play and gives them a chance to rack up some conference wins before the schedule turns in February.
