NC State handed Duke its first loss of the season behind a monster effort from forwards Richard Howell and C.J. Leslie.
The No. 20 NC State Wolfpack upset the No. 1 Duke Blue Devils, 84-76, on Saturday afternoon at PNC Arena in Raleigh, N.C.
Richard Howell finished with a double-double, as the Wolfpack forward took advantage of the absence of Duke's Ryan Kelly on his way to scoring 16 points and pulling down 17 rebounds against the nation's top-ranked team. Meanwhile, NC State's C.J. Leslie led all scorers with 25 points.
For the Blue Devils (15-1), the loss was their first of the season, leaving Michigan as the only undefeated team remaining in Division I. Still, Duke didn't go down without a fight, as Seth Curry battled through various ailments to hit big shot after big shot, only to have NC State (14-2) continually answer with baskets of its own. Curry eventually left the game with an injury to his right leg after scoring 22 points to lead the Blue Devils.
Duke will try to rebound at home against Georgia Tech on Thursday, while NC State will hit the road to face Maryland on Wednesday.
