No. 14 Butler vs. Dayton final score: Bulldogs beat Flyers, 79-73

The No. 14 Butler Bulldogs defeated the Dayton Flyers, 79-73, in Atlantic-10 Conference action at University of Dayton Arena on Saturday afternoon.

While the Bulldogs picked up the win on Saturday, it was hardly all good news for the program. With about eight minutes remaining in the first half, leading scorer and All-American candidate Rotnei Clarke was fouled on a fast break. His upper body crashed into the basket support. He remained down on the floor for several minutes before being immobilized and taken off the court by a stretcher. Clarke has been taken to a local hospital and is expected to be OK.

Roosevelt Jones led Butler with 16 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Senior big man Andrew Smith chipped in with 13 points and four boards. Khyle Marshall added 12 points. As a team, the Bulldogs hit 58 percent of their shots from the field, made it to the free-throw line 35 times and dished out 19 assists.

Dayton wasn't as fortunate on their end of the court. They made just 25 of their 63 field goal attempts, which was caused by a strong defensive effort from Butler. Vee Sanford and Dyshawn Pierre led the way with 14 points each for the Flyers.

Butler is now 14-2 on the season and features a 2-0 record against conference foes. Dayton is 10-6 and has begun A-10 play with two consecutive losses.
