On the day the nation's top-ranked team fell, Louisville stated its case for being No. 1 in college hoops.

The No. 3 Louisville Cardinals had few problems with the South Florida Bulls on Saturday afternoon at the KFC Yum Center, picking up a 64-38 win.

The outcome was never really in doubt. Louisville moved out to an early lead and held a 23-point edge at halftime. Peyton Siva had an impressive day with 17 points and three steals. Gorgui Dieng completely dominated the paint at both ends of the court, wracking up 12 points and 16 rebounds.

As a team, the Cardinals hit 38 percent of their shots from the field and went 15 for 17 at the free-throw line.

South Florida was unable to get much of anything going on offense. Javontae Hawkins led the starters with just nine points, while Victor Rudd chipped in with 10 more off the bench. The Bulls have struggled to score the ball all season long and that was evident again as they shot 26 percent from the field on Saturday.

Next up for No. 3 Louisville is a road trip to UConn on Monday, Jan. 14. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. ET. South Florida will take on Rutgers on Thursday night.
