The Evansville Aces upset the No. 23 Wichita State Shockers, 71-67, in Missouri Valley Conference play on Sunday afternoon at the Ford Center in Evansville, Ind.
Colt Ryan scored 24 points and dished out eight assists for the Aces, who notched their second victory over a ranked team in the past calendar year. Troy Taylor chipped in 12 points and six rebounds in helping Evansville (11-6, 4-1 MVC) to its best start in conference play in 23 years.
Malcolm Armstead led the Shockers with 21 points on 8-of-11 shooting. Wichita State (15-2, 4-1 MVC) shot the ball well, making 54 percent of its attempts, and outrebounded the Aces, 33 to 19. However, the Shockers turned the ball over 22 times, leading to 27 Evansville points.
Wichita State will try to bounce back on Wednesday at home against Illinois State, while Evansville will look to continue its momentum on the road against Drake that same night.
